Capt kenny on the KKAT reports that they have shifted focus to fluke, although there are still some nice striped bass around if you are willing to put in the time, and provided there is light boat trafiic. Mike Hetrick and friends from Bethlehem, PA, put a catch of 16 keeper fluke to 3.5 pounds together on Sunday, 7/9. Massive amounts of shorts, plus about 25 3-4 pound blues spiced to catch, which was made in Raritan bay and the ocean. The Doug Ahle group from J.M. Ahle company in South River had 12 keeper fluke to 4 pounds on Saturday, 7/8. Andrew Pritchard and his 9 year old son Alexander had exceptional striped bass fishing on Friday, 7/7, while chunking fresh bunker off Monmouth Beach. The pair landed a dozen bass to a high of 35 pounds, losing quite a few more plus bluefish. It was Alexander's first saltwater fishing experience, no doubt he is hooked for life!

Fluke are moving in as I have seen some nice keepers in the river by buoy 2-4 . Use live killies. There have been many pods of "candy bar" bunkers moving up river and it is unusual to not see anything chasing them. George Feneise told me that he had not seen a bluefish all weekend. But there have been pods of dolphin in the ocean that are probably scaring them off. A few reports of weak fish but nothing heavy yet.
